Economic Empowerment

We Can Help You

Women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth. Women make enormous contributions to the economy, whether in employment, as entrepreneurs or employees, or by doing unpaid care work at home.

Women also remain disproportionately affected by poverty, discrimination and exploitation. Gender discrimination means women often end up in insecure, low-wage jobs, and constitute a small minority of those in senior positions. It limits participation in shaping economic and social policies. Also because women perform the bulk of household work, they often have little time left to pursue economic or education opportunities.

Our solutions
Growing Real Opportunities for Women (GROW) support women’s economic empowerment, including gender equality and the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. GROW supports women’s economic empowerment. A growing body of evidence shows that gender equality significantly contributes to advancing economies and sustainable development.

Working with a variety of partners, our aim is to promote a woman’s ability to secure employment and reduce their dependency on benefits, thus removing the benefit trap.

In all our economic empowerment work, GROW reaches out to women most in need, often by engaging with grass-roots and other voluntary organisation working with women. Particularly marginalised groups include women who are isolated, deemed hard to reach, domestic workers, ex-offenders, some migrants and low-skilled women. Our aims are higher incomes, better access to and control over resources, and greater security, including protection from violence.

Supported Job Search through GROW
Our programme empowers women in their search for employment by strengthening their skills in multiple areas.
Personal Assessment:
During individual sessions with a Development Officer and Financial Coach, the women will discuss their strengths, fears, and barriers, and create plans for success.
Career Exploration:
GROW will help you identify your skills, interests and values, and guide you in determining employment options, training needs and career goals.
CV Development:
GROW will teach you to package your unique skills, abilities and experience into concise CV’s and effective cover letters that open doors to interviews and quality job opportunities.
Interview Preparation:
GROW will assist the women in sharpening their interviewing skills through a series of mock interviews conducted by human resources professionals and managers who volunteer from local businesses.
Job Search:
The women learn how to search and apply for jobs, register with job-search sites and research potential employers. GROW services will assist you with self-directed job searches and connect you to job leads provided to GROW by local employers and community referrals
